3G Data Plans for 12Call, DTAC and True

Posted on January 9, 2012

The following is an overview of the 3G data plans available by big three cellphone networks in Thailand.  Outside of the 3G coverage areas you can expect EDGE  coverage across Thailand.  Note as of Jan 2013: Currently DTAC and True Move H are clear leaders in country-wide 3G coverage.

Cant get over how terrible true’s website is. Anyway this is a great little comparison. Dtacs unlimited plans look like the clear winner, I would much rather have slow internet for the last week in a month than find out I accidentally went over 1000 bahts worth of data. That and true wifi, any sort of internet for 100 baht a month is too much of a bargain not to take advantage off.

Can someone advise me on a prepaid data plan that automatically cancels at the end of the month if not enough credit is available.

True used to do this but since changing to True H, the plan doesnt cancel. If you have any credit left, you can still access the net but your remaining credit gets used up very quickly. When you do top up with the right amount and activate the plan again the plan starts from your original activation date so you possibly lose days or weeks of the months access.

So again – A plan that cancels at the end of the month. Am happy to use any provider. Any ideas?

I’m in Chiang Mai and internet sucks in general. I’ve been at 2 different apartments by Kad Suan Kaew and paid extra for a direct LAN connection and its so slow they hardly even load a basic web page in the afternoon.

True doesn’t let me get their internet wifi without a work permit and a 1 year contract agreeing to pay 6,000 baht if I cancel before 1 year.

So, I’m wondering what the best USB Air card is, so I can get fast internet on my laptop, but its transmitted from my phone.

Does anyone know what the best, most reliable, and fastest service is for 3G, or using an air card so I can get internet on my laptop (I don’t use internet on my phone itself)?

I’ve choosen now AIS, their network is good with good coverage, however a coverage comparisation to True would have been fine. DTAC I read of a non-tethering policy and TOT isn’t really interesting for me. AIS tethering is fine, True I also found articles on how to tether. The hotel WLAN is worse, so I use AIS instead.

Thanks Cristian. I’ve updated the AIS info, and as you say, they also support HSPA up to 42 Mbps. (according to their website) I believe tethering is a non issue in Thailand, given that all networks impose a data speed cap on their unlimited plans. For now, TOT is a bit of a distraction, so will leave that for people who want to hunt it down.

Here is the missing information of TOT, did not found any english one of this URL (http://www.tot3g.net/GUI/PromotionInfo.aspx?pid=5). Tethering availbility is missing in this list. However, I will give AIS a chance, 384 kbps is outdated, they have much more, see http://www.ais.co.th/3g/index-en.html

What is the deal about the TOT 3G?  Is that just data only?  Does Skype work with it?  I am guessing this is for iPads and modem dongles?

This pay by the MByte is terrible idea. It reminds me of how US phone companies treats their customers so often, taking what they can.  Come on Thailand, get it going!

1st-  This is the best overview of the available services I have seen yet. Really clarifies things for me.  I really appreciate having this page available to review. Kudos!

?Does Yingluck not use a smartphone?  How can AIS be so dismal for data connections.  I guess since somehow they got away with  calling 384 Kbps 3G, that the think most people don’t notice,  and maybe they are right. The way things are going Mynamar is going to have 4G well before Thailand.  I don’t understand why they must continue to battle over the rights.  Why not just make it all equal. They all are going to continue to be mega-rich so what is the big deal?  Image?

My friend in Los Angeles said they just rolled out 4G in the LA county and he gets unlimited 4g data for $40/month.

Please Note that for you phone to work with Dtac and True It needs 850Mhz 3G Support. For it to work with AIS it requires 900Mhz 3g Support.
